How to choose the right sign-off

Sign off the way you'd end a phone call with them. If you say "love you" when you hang up with your mom, "Love," or "Love always," is perfect. If you'd say "talk soon" to a friend, use that. A sign-off that sounds like you makes the whole card feel more personal.

For work cards, stick to warm but professional closings like "Best wishes," or "Warmly,". Save "Love," for colleagues you're genuinely close to. For sympathy cards, keep it gentle: "Thinking of you," or "With love and sympathy," are always appropriate.

Signing a group card

On a group card, keep your note short so there's room for everyone, and sign with your first name (or full name in a big office). The person organizing can sign "From all of us," above the list. With a group card online, everyone signs from their own phone and the notes appear as sticky notes on the card.

Questions people ask

How do you sign a card to someone you don't know well?
"Best wishes," "Warmly," or "Kind regards," are friendly without being too personal.
How do you sign a sympathy card?
"With deepest sympathy," "Thinking of you," or "With love," if you're close. Keep it gentle and simple.
Is it okay to sign a card 'Love' to a coworker?
Only if you're close friends. For most coworkers, "Best wishes" or "Warmly" is safer.
Do I need a comma after the sign-off?
Traditionally yes: "Love," then your name on the next line. In digital cards it's optional.
