Why a memory makes the message

Most card messages sound alike because they skip the one thing only you know. The writer asks for a single detail, like "our road trip to the coast", "your terrible karaoke" or "the soup you brought when I was sick", and works it into each message. That one line is what makes a borrowed sentence sound like you wrote it.

Keep the detail short and concrete. A place, a habit, a shared joke or a moment from this year works best. If you can't think of one, leave it blank: the messages still read well on their own, and you can add a personal line later in the card editor.

Choosing the right tone

Sweet is warm and safe for almost anyone. Heartfelt picks longer, more emotional lines and opens with "Dear", which suits parents, partners and milestone cards. Funny pulls from our joke lists for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, retirement and more. Short keeps everything under a line or two, perfect for texts and gift tags.

Not sure? Try sweet first, then hit "Show me different ones" or switch tones and compare. Every message comes from lists written by people, not generated text, so nothing reads strangely or repeats what everyone else is sending.

Every line the writer uses lives in our message ideas library, sorted by occasion and by who you're writing to. If you'd like a rhyme instead, try the poem generator, and when you're ready to sign off, pick a closing from our card sign-offs.

Questions people ask

Is the message writer free?
Yes. It's completely free, needs no sign-up, and you can write as many messages as you like.
Does the message writer use AI?
No. It combines lines written by our team with your own details, so every message reads naturally and nothing strange slips in.
Can I edit the message after it's written?
Yes. Copy it anywhere and change what you like, or tap "Turn this into a card" to edit it in the card editor before sending.
What should I put as the memory or detail?
A short phrase about something you shared or they love, like "our trip to Lisbon" or "your Sunday pancakes". It gets woven into each message.
